Nice job.

Better than most DnB in the Audio Portal, so you get extra points for caring about DnB. I only have a few complaints about this one. First, it's not a full, structured song, but I don't really care about that, as long as it's good musically, which this is. My main complaint, as usual with dnb in the audio portal, is the drums. The snare drum isn't really punchy enough in my opinion; it doesn't pierce through the bass and everything else. Come to think of it, neither does the kick. The hihats might be too strong in the mix. The kick and snare should generally be the loudest parts of the drums. Some proper mixing would solve that though. Overall, it's not bad, the reese has a nice texture and the automation is good. The ambient sounds in the background are nice. The intro was good, but a more powerful drop would've felt better, you know? In songs like this, it's good to build up some sort of suspense before the drop. Just something that would smack the listener across the face. I felt you could've done more with the ending instead of just fading out, but it's not bad.

Overall, good job. Of course, don't take what I say as what you must do (not that you would anyway); I'm still learning. I need to be able to get those kinds of ambient sounds like you have in your intro. I love them.

So to conclude this long review, I'll give you a tip a pro gave to me: "Pretend you're making music for a huge arena, not just a room." I still have to work on that lol.

5/5 to put it above all the non-dnb songs in the dnb section lol
P.S. Do you have AIM or something? Because you seem to actually care about DnB and if you want, I could give you some tips or something. Or maybe we could collab.

Jenni-Harry4eva3 responds:

Sure mate. Thanks for the in depth review.. I spotted some of the things you spotted yourself lol. Mixing's a bit off in this particular track. I know the drums aren't as punchy as I wanted them to be, sadly. =/ and that sample is pretty punchy. (Time to mess with the filters again ;D)

I'm glad the reese pulled through. That one was fun to make. I felt giddy after listening to it play out lol. Lots of things that I need to work on. Usually I'm good with the drops.. and suspense is something I also have to work on XD I usually do fade outs when I don't know how to end it. Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely keep that in mind!

(My AIM is right on my front page.)

Wow...

This sounds exactly the same as the original, except the drums are a lot worse. They sound muffled. Oh, I just noticed one difference - the bassline at 0:43, but it sounds so similar to the original. That bass sounds like... weird. Agreed with others, the bass should be clearer and reesier.

But overall this gets a 6 because it sounds almost exactly the same as the original.
Nothing new or your own seemed to have been added. That's the point of a remix.

Anima-Theory responds:

Urgh, as I said its a remix not a remake, most people say remix when they mean remake.

I took paragon's sound and structure and remixed it, ie changed the mixing. The bass is a shit load deeper than the original. As I stated below Also, I stated below that the I had trouble with the drums with the compressor.

"Nothing new or your own seemed to have been added. That's the point of a remix." - That's the point of a remake.

Thanks for the review anyway

lol

I lol at wtflolnoob. This isn't Drum & Bass.

It should be in like dance or something (I'm bad at classifying other genres)

It's good though.

alix1 responds:

lol. it is D&B its just that i dont really like D&B so it got more of a hardcore-jumpcore sound to it. along with the D&B. thanks for the review. :)

No. Stop.

Not stop making music, stop being ignorant. I quote, "but either way this is technically drum n bass because it has drum and bass." No. Just because it has drums and a bass doesn't mean it's drum and bass. Jenni-Harry4eva3 is right. He knows what he's talking about. I just want to say, don't look up ParagonX9 for examples of DnB. The only DnB song by PX9 is Defection. Also, Zero-Bass is good, but not really DnB. He's more dance-y. Look at Koriigahn (Para) and ZENON. Also look up some pro stuff on youtube or something.

As for this song, the bass is boring, the drums are boring (wtf no hihats?) and it's overall pretty boring. Sorry.

I'd leave a long-ass review about how to make DnB here, but I just did on somebody else's song, so too bad.

ganon95 responds:

keep in mind when i make any music im using sound kits for techno, i don't have any DNB sounds to use, meaning its not going to sound like a professional DNB is supposed to. this song is 200 BPM which made it very hard to come up with a decent beat without it sounding like a super fast mess of sounds which is what i had before i came up with this.

and if having just drums and bass doesn't make it DNB then why is it called Drum n bass? just reading that gives me the idea that you should have ONLY drum and bass. also im not sure exactly why you would need hi-hats in this because the way i use hi-hats would make it sound too much like techno

"First real DnB"

Actually no. This isn't real DnB. But I'll go easy. This song is ok. I think you need to vary the drum pattern more - it seems to be the same pattern throughout the whole song. Also, I think it could use less bass drum. Sounds kinda busy. The snare also seems too high - something I've been finding in many songs lately. Layer it with something that has more treble, and more a snap. Your current snare doesn't really HIT me, you know? The drums, overall, just need to be fatter.

A sub bass wouldn't hurt either.

~Ackute

Fredgy responds:

i know 'bout the drum pattern :p like i said in 2 previous, i'm going to edit it after exams :)
I really understand what you mean thanks ;)

also, FINALLY.

Damn. I never see any real DnB on NG anymore. Thank you for actually caring enough to make a real DnB song and uplaod it. A little more work, and this'll be perfect. The reese is great, the drums just seem like they need to be layered some more. I don't know, just something to make them thicker. Add some bass (or treble or w/e) to that snare (around 1:30), cuz it sounds pretty high. It needs something to give it some fatness. Some POW. Yeah otherwise, this good.

~Ackute

Slipstreamer responds:

Thanks for the review man, STOP CHANGING YOUR NAME LOL.

Hmm

The piano seemed weak, it just seemed fake, maybe get a better piano VST. The vocals sounded good, they added a nice touch. The bass could've been louder too.

But overall, I liekd it, it was kinda repetitive but still good.

~boney_man

Answering your question: anyone can do a collaboration. Anyone.

Hotwired05 responds:

ok cool...and for the question i meant putting the collaboration on the Flash forums ^_^

Yep.

You're definitely getting better at DnB, seeing as you made most of this song, lol. I like how it's melodic and trancey, but still has a hard bass and stuff.

Yep, we did a good job.

~boney_man
5/5 lol
PS - What happened to my automation changes huh??

A-New-Decade responds:

*highfive*

Hm.

I wouldn't call this drum n bass, and it's not on the long side for a DnB at all. I mean, it's a good song and all, it's just kind of repetitive, and I think at its length it could use more synths/melodies and diversity.

~boney_man
PS, I'm not even sure WHAT genre this is, but I know it's not DnB.
Overall good song though.

Death-9 responds:

Personally, I like the repetitive part, but I agree that lots of other good music changes over time. I'm not very good at layering synths, because they always come out poorly somehow :P

In response to your PS, DnB is the closest I could put it. It's some form of Breakbeat, in which DnB is inclusive. Since Newgrounds doesn't have Melodic Breakbeat as a genre, I'll have to stick with DnB for now

Thanks for the review-
X-Is-Trance

Hmm.

Reminds me of "These Mistakes" by nubbinownz. I think it could have used a sub-bass, but it's ok as it is. It also doesn't have much diversity, as far I can hear. All I hear is a piano, a pad-type thing, some weird sound effect in the background (i think it's in the song...) and the drums.

Overall good job, though.

Oh, now I'm noticing, that weird sound effect I mentioned before... it sounds like a crow... is that what it is?

LLAAPPSSEE responds:

Yeah, him and I are sort of in the same genre. A bass? I could go back and do that, but i dunno, i liked the empty sort of sound it has without one. There's some light stuff at the end. A stand up bass, hah. There's no pad in the song though. You may have heard some birds and yes, crows. Thank you for your review, man, i appreciate your ears.

I make drum & bass which I upload on www.soundcloud.com/1 shibumi. I don't submit (often) to NG anymore, but feel free to use whatever I have posted here. But you should know that I've gotten a lot better!
