first review yay

Very good. I enjoy this song a lot... it'd do good on a dancefloor imo, especially at the part at 0:35. I had stuff to say, but then I listened to it a few more times, and I don't think I have any complaints. Oooh actually, the snare could be snappier, but maybe it's the quality doing that. Yeah so anyway reese is great. Drums are well-made. Overall it's great, can't wait for the final version - I'd like to use it on my podcast :D

Haha cheers. :]

Snare gets drowned out by the hats a bit, and the reese needs turning up. Idk if I'm sending it out tbh, depends on how I feel how good the finished one is and how good the mix is.

Mix it better

And then it'll be good. It's a good concept; it's just that the saws are overpowering everything (especially at around 1:22). It also has no sub. Drum & bass needs sub, man. That's pretty much it there, but now on to the drums. Your kick and snare don't sound like drum & bass kicks and snares. The kick has no transient; it's kind of like "flop." Just layer it with something that has more of a hit to it, and perhaps EQ and compress them together. The snare sounds muffled. Not only because the saws are overpowering it, but because it just does. It's the sample. It sounds more like a rock snare. It does have good thickness though, so I'd layer it with a more synthetic snare, and once again, EQ and compress them together. Also, make the kick and snare stick out in the mix. Good hat work.

So overall, just fix the kick and snare, and mix it better, and then it'll be good.

Duly noted

Certainly not bad.

Not as good as other things I've heard from you, bass-wise. As far as I can hear, the mixing is done pretty well, but you might want to turn the sub down a bit. It doesn't clash with the kick or anything, but I think it's a bit much. Other than that, I really have nothing to say other than the obvious "make it into a full song," "add effects," and "add an epic reese."

Good job.

AeraDynamic responds:

I played this in the back and made a reese in fl and played it live, sounds nasty :3 The bass is a tad too loud I agree but I can't be arsed changing it now lul

I've done better I know, I just wanted to make a different bass this time but keep it easy and simple. I didn't want to work my ass of it this time :P

Ehh

Not my style (I'm a total D&B head) but good nonetheless. It sounds very experimental. Almost reminds me of dubstep due to the tempo and drum patterns. Now that I think of it, with a nice bass, you could turn this into a great dubstep track. Of course, you don't have to, it's your song lol. The snare drum in the pattern at around 1:44 is kind of... ew lol. Too low pitched. The other higher snare is way better. The kick does go deep, but I don't feel any sub on this, sorry lol :D The kick lingers too much for my tastes. A nice solid thump is what this needs. Filter all of the unnecessary frequencies from it and shorten it a bit via a volume envelope or something.
The effects and melodies and overall atmosphere are great though. I must say, you have great ideas and are definitely a good producer. Lookin' forward to that collab man - sorry I haven't been on MSN, my monitor died >:(

AeraDynamic responds:

yeah I knew it wouldn't be your style but it's cool to listen to other things sometimes. If you only stick to one genre your taste for music will become a bit biased and monotonous in time and I find it quite interesting to show you something different than DnB or HipHop (what I usually stick to) but next time DnB I... naw I won't say 'I promise' cauce IF I do I gotta do it and who knows what happens tomorrow ;) But there is a slight chance for a DnB next time...

No Bass for me and no Dubstep also, sorry :( I wanted to include this Vocals in a DnB first but then I came in touch with a simple HipHop Drumline and then I just did it that way. The 1:44 Drums are absolutely overpitched yeah xD I shifted the drums 5 keys up and then 5 keys down, copied into the 2nd Snare channel and inverted the notes to make it sound weird and unnormal, that was on purpose ;)

The Kick is just what a HipHop Kick sounds like if you want it to be a bit flushy and reeverb -ish (was a custom Drum I made) so it's all good... Modern HipHop Drums are more thumpy and short (Crunk or general Dirty South)

And plox get this monitor back working sir :,(

LOL

This is a useless review, sorry, but I had to comment on the review below me. This is Geier, in case you don't know, and he's so much better than this now... trust me, he doesn't need production lessons.

Personally, I love this song, low bitrate and all. It was the first full drum & bass song I'd ever found, I think... thank you for inspring me Geier :D

Not bad

Keep it up, Youri. You have great ideas and great potential. You just need to work on mixing, like me. Overall, this song sounds very unrefined, even though it's great at its core. I don't have much to say; that's my only complaint, really. Good job.

YouriX responds:

Oh yes we all have something to work with ;)
And yes your right im trying to make a crystal clear mixing. That i hear from other songs. Thanks for the review!

Whoa nice.

Not bad man. I like the liquid influences here. This is pretty much a useless review because I don't feel like analyzing this song, lol.

Can you send me that violin sample? The full one at 0:33? I'd love to make a liquid tune around that. It's awesome.

Why haven't I found this before...

Seriously, why didn't I find this earlier? NG lacks full drum & bass songs, and this one is definitely high quality (as in production). You guys did an amazing job on this. I love the pads and ambience and the chilled-out feel it has. I only have two complaints about this song. First, I feel the snare could've been a bit better. The snare you currently have has great high-end, but could benefit from some more lows and some more snap. My other complaint is that the saxophone can be too loud at points, at least to me. For example, at 2:18, it's kind of overpowering.

Overall, this song is great. Good job on getting in played on BassDrive! I wish you guys well for your future productions.

Not bad

Needs sub. Most DnB producers on NG forget about subs. But if you added a sub and EQed and mixed it more, this would be a great song. I must say, I think these are your best drums so far. The violins aren't bad either. And making reeses is easy, it shouldn't take that long. It takes about as long as it does to load up a Sytrus synth and find the cerbera saw as it does to make a basic reese with 3xOsc.

Good job overall.

YouriX responds:

Dont worry im real busy trying to make my own reese with 3xOsc but i really love the cebera saw but ow well! I'll see what i can do about the sub ;)

Thanks for the comment!

I agree with Rig.

Not to go against NemesisTheory, but this is a true DnB song with structure, not some random 3 minute one. However, he is right about the intro. It doesn't really build up to anything. It sounds like a minute-and-a-half loop, and when the drop hits, it's not really that powerful. But that's probably only because it lacks a sub, as Rig said. The drums are good. Actually very good, a lot better than the drums on other "DnB" songs on Newgrounds. The drops are really long, and that wouldn't be a problem if they had a bass or more variation. It just sounds like drums with ambience behind it. I don't hear anything musical, you know? No basslines or melodies or anything... and I have my speakers up kind of loud.

Another thing is, the whole song sounds kind of muffled. At what kbps did you render it?

So overall, it's not bad. It just needs a sub and needs to be cleaned up a bit. A sub and a really dirty reese would sound amazing with what you already have, in my opinion. So nice job, keep working on it.

5/5 to put it above all of the other "DnB" in the DnB section

AeraDynamic responds:

Sorry for the quality I had to render it with 128 kbit/s cause it is already 7mb big... I am remaking this crapshit Track anyway >:C I am not happy with it anymore since I found out yesterday how to make my own reese with 3xOsc and I want to put this new knowledge into this Track. I'll leave it online till I am done with the v2 - There is much to clean up, much to change much to add and much to master :/ I will be busy with this thing a whole day or longer when I get to it. I am still a newcomer to DnB and making a killer reese and modulating it live is hard as hell for me to figure out. Any help from anyone (... you?) would be very welcome :D Thanks for the detailed review, NT is a woman and Rig is a genious and I am out *wooosh

PS: Where are you releasing your Music now? Are you on Beatport or can I download your full tracks on MySpace?

I make drum & bass which I upload on www.soundcloud.com/1 shibumi. I don't submit (often) to NG anymore, but feel free to use whatever I have posted here. But you should know that I've gotten a lot better!
